How this is computed

The schedule. The Land Transportation Office assigns each vehicle's annual registration renewal to a specific month and week based on the plate number. The exact mapping is published in LTO Motor Vehicle Registration Transactions External Services (Nov 2025), p.267. The same schedule applies to motor vehicle inspection.

Last digit determines the month. Plates ending in 1 renew in January, 2 in February, and so on through 9 in September. Plates ending in 0 renew in October. November and December are reserved for delinquent or out-of-cycle renewals — vehicles being re-registered after a long lapse.

Second-to-last digit determines the week. Within the assigned month: digits 1, 2, or 3 fall in the 1st week; 4, 5, or 6 in the 2nd week; 7 or 8 in the 3rd week; 9 or 0 in the 4th week. Single-digit plates default to the 1st week.

Renewal window. LTO accepts renewals up to 60 days (about two months) before your assigned week, with no surcharge. Renewing AFTER your assigned week triggers a 50 percent MVUC penalty.

Frequently asked questions

What if today is past my assigned week?

You can still renew — LTO doesn't block late renewals — but a 50 percent MVUC penalty applies for delinquent registration. See the Late Registration Penalty calculator to compute the exact extra amount.

Can I renew earlier than my assigned week?

Yes. LTO opens the renewal window 60 days (about two months) before your assigned week. Earlier-than-assigned renewals are processed normally with no surcharge.

Why don't November and December appear in the schedule?

Per the LTO 2025 Citizen's Charter, November and December are reserved for delinquent or out-of-cycle renewals — vehicles being re-registered after a long lapse, or special transactions. Standard annual renewals all fall in January through October based on the last digit of your plate.

Does this apply to motorcycles too?

Yes. The same digit-to-month and digit-to-week schedule applies to all motor vehicle registrations: cars, motorcycles, utility vehicles, SUVs, trucks, and buses. The source is LTO Motor Vehicle Registration Transactions External Services (Nov 2025), p.267.

My plate is a special / vanity / diplomat plate. Does the same schedule apply?

For most LTO-issued plates the same digit logic applies. For diplomat plates and other special categories handled by specific LTO offices (e.g. Diliman District), schedules may differ — when in doubt, confirm with your registering office.
